30TH ANNIVERSARY FOOD NOT BOMBS PRESENTATION DETAILS

30th Anniversary Food Not Bombs Presentation

Three Decades of Cooking for Peace

The "30th Anniversary of Food Not Bombs" Presentation is a great way to

inspire your friends and classmates to work for peace and social change.

Food Not Bombs cofounder, Keith McHenry shares the history of  creative

direct action from the first "Bake Sale to Buy a B-1 Bomber" to the

"Battle Of Seattle", the organizing the food relief effort after

Hurricane Katrina, and the weekly sharing of free vegetarian meals  in

over 1,000 cities around the world. Food Not Bombs pioneered a "do it

yourself" culture with the creation of Indymedia, Homes Not Jails squats,

Food Not Lawns community gardens, Bikes Not Bombs bicycle repair, the

Really Really Free Markets and unlicensed low-watt radio stations.  Food

Not Bombs fed the protesters for 100 days during the Orange Revolution in

the Ukraine, started animal rescue shelters in 24 cities in Slovakia, won

the Danish Peace Award and has provided meals for Earth First! activists

in Australia, striking auto workers in Korea and at protests against the

economic collapse in Iceland. The global economic collapse, increase in

war, and the crisis of climate change is creating exciting innovations, and

popular support for the Food Not Bombs movement.

Keith's presentation has inspired students from Princeton, Oberlin,

Goucher,Ferris State College to San Diego City College, the University of

Calibar, Nigeria and the Autonomous University of Mexico City, to take

action. Keith co-wrote the book "Food Not Bombs - How to Feed The Hungry

and Build Community." He faced life in prison and spent over 500 days in

jail for his work with Food Not Bombs. Amnesty Internationl announced that

they would declare Keith a "Prisoner of Conscience" if he was convicted.

The Food Not Bombs presentation will inspire greater participation and

motivate your classmates and friends to join you in working for peace,

social justice and a sustainable future. Your student organization can

benefit from hosting one or more of the seven presentations offered by Food

Not Bombs cofounder Keith McHenry. Review the seven presentations below and

let us know which one you would like to host at your school.

Please contact Nyna at 575-776-3880, or nyna@foodnotbombs.net, to arrange

the presentation for this semester.

Some of the topics available for the presentation:

1. Three Decades of Cooking for Peace

The history, principles and current actions of Food Not Bombs. Keith helped

start Food Not Bombs in Boston in 1980, and has volunteered collecting

food, cooking vegan meals and sharing food with the hungry for three

decades. He has worked with Food Not Bombs chapters all over the world, and

will share his experience with your classmates, inspiring them to

participate in the work of your student organization. Many people report

that they started dedicating their lives to peace, social justice and the

protection of the earth and animals after participating with Food Not

Bombs. You can have huge impact on your campus by organizing the 30th

Anniversary Food Not Bombs Presentation at your school. You can unite all

the progressive clubs on campus and invite them to co- host this

presentation, or your club can bring in this powerful positive speaker on

it's own. Either way you can make a difference by organizing the 30th

Anniversary Food Not Bombs - Three Decades of Cooking for Peace

Presentation at your school.

2. Amnesty International Declares All Food Not Bombs Volunteers Prisoners

of Conscience.

Learn how important your work with Amnesty International  can be. Keith

McHenry faced 25  years to life in prison but Amnesty International

organized a campaign that lead to his freedom. Find out how the campaign

started, what Amnesty International did to determine if Food Not Bombs

qualified for assistance and learn about all the Food Not Bombs cases in

Asia and Central America where Amnesty International's work brought freedom

to the volunteers of Food Not Bombs. This is a great presentation for

inspiring student interest in the work of Amnesty International.

3. Food Not Bombs in Defense of the Environment

Food Not Bombs has been organizing and providing food and logistics for

climate change actions and protests against logging, mining, factory

farming, nuclear power and other toxic assaults on the earth. Find out how

Food Not Bombs has taken nonviolent direct action from promoting the

recovery of edible food, vegan eating to the growing of organic gardens and

defense of native people. Your environmental club will benefit from Keith's

presentation inspiring your classmates to join you in protecting the earth.

4. The Animals Not Bombs Presentation

Food Not Bombs has been on the forefront of defending the rights of

animals, teaching the community about the need to be vegan, and the pain

caused by factory farming, fur and experimentation. Food Not Bombs started

Animal Rescue Shelters, shares vegan burgers outside of McDonalds all over

the world on October 16th, and provides vegan meals, literature  and

logistics in defense of animals since the group began in 1980.  This

presentation will inspire your classmates to see the importance of

respecting our fellow animals, and learn about all the nonviolent actions

your club can take to support animal rights. Your club will have more

members and have a larger impact on campus.

5. Workshop on Nonviolent resistance

Based on the nonviolence training in preparation for direct actions. The

workshop is interactive, with role playing scenarios that your community

may be considering. Keith has been facilitating this workshop since 1978,

supporting a number of powerful campaigns of nonviolent direct action.

6. The Failure of Domestic Spying to stop Food Not Bombs

Thirty years of covert efforts by the U.S. government to disrupt Food Not

Bombs has failed to interfere with our progress, due to our dedication

to nonviolence, our non hierarchal decision making structure and focus on

the sharing of free vegetarian meals.  Inclusion on the "terrorist watch

list", wiretapping, and infiltration may be an indication that authorities

fear the message of Food Not Bombs. All students of law as well as National

Lawyers Guild and ACLU clubs can benefit from the detail information

presented by Keith in this presentation.

7.Food Not Bombs Works to End World Hunger and Poverty

Food Not Bombs co-founder, Keith McHenry,  has volunteered with Food Not

Bombs feeding the hungry for 30 years in communities all over the world.

This presentation is perfect for Hunger Awareness Week Program or as part

of your Oxfam dinner. Keith can share his experience organizing food relief

efforts after earthquakes and hurricanes like Katrina as well as his work

providing meals to the hungry on the streets of the United States to

Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe and Latin America. Your classmates will be

inspired to join your effort to end hunger and poverty.

8. The Consensus Workshop

The secret to Food Not Bombs' global impact is rooted in the decentralized

inclusive desisionmaking process of consensus. Keith has over 30 years

experience participating in meetings that use consensus. His workshop can

help inspire greater dedication by your members, and decisions that best

reflect the desires and goals of your group.
