Partners for Peace, an NGO based in Washington, DC has as its mission efforts to bring about a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Since 1998, this group has sponsored US tours which present women representing the three major faiths in Israel and Palestine: Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. Each of the women has witnessed decades of Israeli-Palestinian violence and the intermittent attempts to rekindle peace talks. Together they have made a commitment to share with American audiences how this conflict has affected them, their families, their work for a peaceful future, and what must be done to make peace possible.
Joining with Partners for Peace, the Justice and Peace Committee of First Presbyterian Church Annapolis along with co-sponsor Annapolis Friends Meeting are hosting one of this year’s 20-event tour programs. Featured will be Ms. Jala Basil Andoni, a Palestinian Christian retired teacher from Beit Sahour near Jerusalem; Ms. Ruth El-Raz, an Israeli Jewish psychotherapist, sculptor/painter, political activist from Jerusalem; and Ms. Hekmat Besisso, a Palestinian Muslim Community Trainer in nonviolence from Ramallah.
After the women relate their stories, there will be an open forum for audience members to ask questions. A free-will donation will be accepted.
This is a critical time in the Middle East. It is more important than ever that we have opportunities to see and hear the human faces of the Middle East and to become even more conscious of the devastating consequences of the ongoing conflict. It is also important that the people of America listen to the voices of women yearning for peace.
